Health

OPAD is dedicated to improving nations’ well-being by strengthening community resilience and promoting health and well-being. Our programs focus on providing access to healthcare and healthcare information for underserved populations, delivering in-person and online training to healthcare professionals, and conducting medical screenings, consultations, and prescription medicine access for low-income and high-risk communities. Through our user-centered models and approaches, we work with government ministries, the private sector, and other key stakeholders to improve health systems, provide evidence for health policy and program reform, and tackle governance challenges that create healthcare barriers. We strive to ensure that all children have the highest possible chance to learn. In addition, all parents have the opportunity to earn, so they can invest in their families and futures.

OPAD works to promote health and well-being by working with communities to strengthen resilience. This can be achieved through providing access to resources, such as health care, education, and social services; developing infrastructure and systems to improve living conditions, and providing support to vulnerable populations. Additionally, OPAD engages in initiatives that promote social cohesion and build capacity for individuals and communities to adapt to changing conditions and build resilience.

Our Program invests primarily in:

OPAD’s health strategy focuses on increasing access to essential health services, including disease treatment and prevention, improving maternal and infant care, promoting good health, nutrition, and sanitation practices throughout communities, strengthening health systems, preventing early forced child marriage, domestic violence, mental health issues, and harmful traditional practices. Additionally, OPAD works to prevent and manage communicable and non-communicable diseases, promote reproductive health and family planning, and combat waterborne diseases, malaria, TB, and HIV/AIDS. OPAD also works to promote environmental sanitation, personal hygiene, hepatitis prevention, maternal and child health care, climate change, and resilience.

OPAD works for the protection of the human rights of adolescents and young women living with HIV in developing nations. It does this by strengthening the legal response to HIV and AIDS. It raises awareness about public health goals and human rights. It helps lawmakers develop reforms based on evidence, international law, and best practices. OPAD strives to ensure everyone has access to quality HIV health services.

HIV services for adolescent girls and young women

Adolescent girls and young women face an alarming 71 percent of HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa. This is due to gender- and age-based discrimination, violence, and abuse, including sexual assault, forced marriage, and tracking. OPAD aims to empower communities to access quality HIV-related services and hold service providers accountable. We can make this possible by partnering with global law schools to aid the AIDS response. We can advance rights, end AIDS, and strengthen HIV/AIDS coordination to support UNAIDS’ global goals. Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against HIV.

OPAD works to ensure adolescent girls and young women have access to effective HIV services. This includes providing resources to organizations or programs that specialize in serving this population. In addition, it includes creating public health campaigns that emphasize the importance of HIV prevention, testing, and treatment for adolescent girls and young women. Additionally, OPAD works to reduce stigma and other barriers that stand in the way of these individuals receiving the care and support they need.
